My Current Project
I am currently pursuing traditional publishing and querying my adult high fantasy novel. Please see my blurb below:
ASLEEP AMONG THE SPIDER LILIES is a 104,000-word adult fantasy novel blending literary prose with high fantasy in a Japanese-inspired world. It is written for readers who enjoy literary-leaning upmarket fantasy. Inspired by the beauty of impermanence in the mono no aware of Kawabata Yasunari’s novels, it combines the awakening gods and mythological conflict of John Gwynne’s Bloodsworn Saga with a character-driven narrative and Japanese-inspired mythology and magic.
To protect the beautiful world, Yori must kill gods, resurrect them, and become one.
In the land of Gendō, war rages over the magic of slumbering gods. Yori lives a peaceful life as a scribe in an isolated mountain village. However, as the most important ceremony of the year draws closer, he is haunted by his unrequited love for his best friend’s wife, and by the recurring nightmare of his burning home.
When mainland armies invade his village, Yori watches as his premonitions turn into reality and his entire world burns. His family, his best friend, and the woman he loves are killed before his eyes. Yori is captured by the Ryū Lord and subjected to brutal experiments in an attempt to resurrect sleeping gods and reignite an old divine war. His only refuge is a field of spider lilies where guilt and ghosts consume him, and reality is lost to the red flowers.
But when the god of his people reveals Yori's true identity and his power over time itself, he becomes the center of the ancient battle. As gods awaken, parallel timelines clash, and those thought lost live again, Yori is drawn into the war that will decide the order of the world. He must confront the reality of his loss, of his guilt, and of his true power. While the conflict between humans and the divine grows, Yori finds new love, new allies, and new reason. To preserve what beauty remains in the dark world, he must choose—to become a god and lead the fight in the war that has taken everything from him, or to cling to peace in a broken world.
